WOONSOCKET BOARD OF CANVASSERS AND REGISTRATION ANNOUNCES DEADLINE TO REGISTER TO VOTE FOR THE ELECTION NOVEMBER 3, 2020 

 

Woonsocket, RI: Sunday October 4, 2020 is the deadline to register to vote in order to be eligible to cast a ballot in the Election on November 3, 2020. 

Anyone 18 years of age and over, and a citizen of the United States may register to vote. You must register to vote from your residence address. 

Any registered voter who has moved from one address to another address within the City of Woonsocket must update their voter registration with the Board of Canvassers. 

The Board of canvassers will be accepting registrations on October 4 at the Woonsocket Police Station located at, 242 Clinton St. during the hours of 1pm to 4pm.

Early voting record keeps getting bigger as the election draws near. More than 71-million Americans had cast ballots by Tuesday, far more than the 58-point-three million early votes in 2016. And the number is more than half of all votes for president four years ago. Just under 137-million Americans voted in 2016's presidential election. Early votes cast so far this year are 55-percent of that total.       Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner did not see his team win the World Series on Tuesday. It was announced on the broadcast afterwards that Turner had tested positive for COVID-19, leading to his abrupt removal from the game after seven innings. Commissioner Rob Manfred confirmed the positive test in a post-game interview with FOX.        The heads of Facebook, Google and Twitter will testify in a Senate hearing today. Lawmakers have been critical of the major tech companies on issues of monopoly, privacy and censorship. Republicans have accused social media of suppressing conservative views while Democrats have raised concerns over providing a place for hate speech to thrive.        Fierce winds driving wildfires in Southern California are forcing more than 100-thousand people from their homes. The winds that have been pushing the Silverado and Blue Ridge fires across Orange County are expected to die down today. The two fires have scorched more than 27-thousand acres.        Some grand jurors in the Breonna Taylor case have harsh words for how Louisville police handled the March raid that left Taylor dead in her own home. Two jurors tell CBS they were never given the option to consider murder or manslaughter charges for any of the officers. That's at odds with what the Kentucky Attorney General says.        The Queen of Tejano music will be the subject of a new series coming soon to Netflix. "Selena The Series" will present a coming-of-age story about Selena Quintanilla [[ sah - LEE - nah keen - tah - KNEE - yah ]], who was shot to death in 1995 by the president of her fan club. The series is scheduled to stream on Netflix starting December 4th.
