In observance of Labor Day, Town Hall and Public Works will be closed

Monday, September 5th

 

 

Trash will be delayed one day the week of September 5th,

in observance of Labor Day

 

 

EARLY VOTING AT TOWN HALL

 

Early voting began on Wednesday, August 24th and runs through Monday, September 12, 2022 at Town Hall for the Primary Election, which is on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.  The mandatory hours set by the Board of Elections is our normal business hours which is Monday through Wednesday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Thursday 8:00 am to 7:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Please note that September 5th is Labor Day, therefore, there will be no early voting that day. Votes will be cast in the new town council chambers. Please bring a valid photo ID with you.

North Smithfield Food Pantry

 

September Food Pantry pick-up dates;

Tuesday, September 20th & 27th @ 5:30pm

 

 

The Food Pantry is for North Smithfield residents.

You must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms your North Smithfield address. You can attend the Food Pantry all four times it is open per month.

The Pantry is located at the Slatersville Congregational Church

UCC on the Common.

 

Starting in the month of May we will be opening our pantry for indoor shopping. We are asking that all clients to please bring their own shopping bag and to wear a mask while inside.

LIVESTREAMING OPEN MEETINGS

A. Livestreaming for Town Council, Halliwell Review Committee, Zoning Board and Planning Board: The Town will provide livestreaming for the open meetings of the Town Council, Halliwell Review Committee, Zoning Board of Review, and Planning Board whenever feasible via YouTube, Zoom, or some other technology. If technical difficulties occur during the livestream of an open meeting, the open meeting will continue to proceed as scheduled without livestreaming. (Livestreaming increases public access to public meetings in addition to the right of the public to attend open meetings in person.)

B. Public must be physically present to participate. Members of the public, applicants, petitioners, expert s, etc. who want to participate in an open meeting in any fashion must be physically present at the meeting. Members of the public, applicants, petitioners, experts, etc. will not be allowed to participate in an open meeting remotely by offering comment, testimony, or other remarks. through virtual means.

C. No other Board, Commission, or Committee will be livestreamed: Except as specified above, the Town will not provide livestreaming for any other Board, Commission or Committee.

D. Technical Difficulties: If technical difficulties occur during any livestream, the open meeting will continue to proceed as scheduled.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is closing at a new low for the year. Stocks trimmed some losses in the final hour as global recession fears rattled markets. At the closing bell, the Dow lost 486 points to 29-590. The S&P 500 fell 64 points to 36-93. The Nasdaq dropped 198 points to 10-867.       Moderna is requesting the FDA clear its new COVID boosters for kids and teens. The pharmaceutical company filed two authorization requests for the FDA. One is for kids as young as six and another for teens up to 17.        Roger Federer is wrapping up his legendary tennis career. The 20-time Grand Slam champion lost in doubles with Rafael Nadal at the Laver Cup in London. Federer won over 100 singles titles during his legendary career, with his 20 Grand Slams placing him third all-time for most won.       Former President Trump is holding a rally in North Carolina today. It's taking place in Wilmington. The Tar Heel State has a key Senate race on the ballot this year. Democrat Cheri Beasley is going up against Republican Ted Budd. Current Republican Senator Richard Burr is retiring.       Jill Biden is honoring Jackie Kennedy at the White House. On Friday, she delivered remarks at a White House Historical Association ceremony and dedicated a sculpture to the former First Lady. The sculpture is known as the Jacqueline Kennedy Medallion and celebrates the Kennedy's historic legacy at the White House, and Jackie's dedication to the preservation of Lafayette Square.        "Don't Worry Darling" is bringing in just over three-million-dollars thanks to Thursday previews. The Olivia Wilde directed film is projected to rake in between 20 and 26 million-dollars over its opening weekend. It stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles as a couple living in a utopia-like town in 1950's California, where Pugh's character starts to realize things aren't really what they seem.
