Slatersville Congregational Church, UCC

25 Green Street Slatersville, RI

Please join us for this service of simple thanksgiving of music, word, song and prayer.  We are inviting each pastor/representative leader of the religious communities participating in the Thanksgiving service to light a candle and give voice to two things about your congregation: one specific thing for which your community is thankful from the past year; and one specific thing that you are hopeful about for the coming year. We ask that you limit yourself to expressing your thanks and hopes in two sentences—one for each—in order to focus our time together and effectively share our thanksgivings and hopes with the other participants in this year’s service.  Clergy is invited to vest as is your custom.

Choirs or individuals are welcome to participate in a one time choir under the direction of the Slatersville Choir Director, John Staples.  The piece is Let Us Give Thanks to the Lord

Exaltation Choral Series by R. Thornhill/B. Nix  ISBN - 88680 02042

Shawnee Press  35029814    Unison/opt-2 Part Treble Voices.   All interested in singing should arrive at Slatersville Church at 3:15 on Sunday November 19th with music.  Choir will not robe.

We are asking that each participating church bring one or two plates of snacks for a time of fellowship that will follow.

This Thanksgiving Service is an initiative of a group of clergy from the Woonsocket, Blackstone and North Smithfield areas and is dedicated to the late Fr. Edward St-Godard, pastor-emeritus of Holy Family Parish, who was the original organizer and who held Thanksgiving Services at Holy Family Parish for 15 years.

The college professor who accuses Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were teenagers is willing to testify to a Senate committee. CNN reports Christine Blasey Ford's attorney told the Senate Judiciary Committee that Ford's willing to testify next Thursday. A hearing is scheduled for Monday, but Ford has ruled out appearing then, saying it's too soon.        More than 50 people could face charges after they were arrested while protesting Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination. The protesters demanded the FBI investigate a California college professor's sexual assault allegation, which Kavanaugh has strongly denied.        President Trump is hinting that he's willing to wait until after the midterm elections to get Congress to provide money for his border wall. The Senate approved a spending bill this week that does not include funding. Trump has said in the past that he's willing to shutdown the government if Congress doesn't fund the wall.        Rite Aid is reacting to a deadly shooting at one of its facilities in Maryland. The company tweeted that it is "deeply saddened" by the shooting yesterday morning at a distribution center about 40 minutes northeast of Baltimore. Police say a temporary worker killed three people and wounded three others before fatally shooting herself.        A man who shot two Prince George's County, Maryland officers will not be charged. The police chief says the officers were moving in on an alleged drug dealer, but they were at the wrong address. The man who wounded them says he was acting in self-defense on what he thought was a home invasion.        Two Texas pranksters are getting a big paycheck. The they took a photo of themselves after noticing that pictures in a McDonald's in Pearland didn't feature anyone of Asian descent. McDonald's got word of the trick and awarded them each 25-thousand-dollars to be in an upcoming marketing campaign.
