An Afternoon with Stephen Foster & Mark Twain

The Harris Library, 303 Clinton Street, will host "An Afternoon with Stephen Foster and Mark Twain" from 2pm-3pm on Saturday, April 6th. Ed Sweeney and Mary King have combined their talents to re-create the music and sounds of Stephen Foster to Mark Twain. Ed, with his guitar and five string banjo, has performed throughout the US, Canada and Taiwan. His recordings were top choices in 'USA Today' ,'Washington post', 'Boston Globe' and numerous publications across the US. In addition, Ken Burns has used Ed's music, as has Disneyland in Paris. Playing alongside Ed on fiddle and Celtic Harp is Mary King. Mary performs for audiences throughout New England. Lawmakers in the United Kingdom is getting a little more time to pass a negotiated deal to leave the European Union. The EU will delay Britain's exit until May 22nd if Parliament passes the deal negotiated between the EU and Prime Minister Theresa May. However, if they cannot pass the measure, they'll be out of the EU on April 12th.       Folks in New Zealand are coming together one week after a gunman killed 50 people in shootings at two mosques. A call to prayer rang out across the country on Friday afternoon and that was followed by two minutes of silence. The gunman was a white supremacist who targeted the Muslim population because of his anti-immigrant beliefs.        Lori Loughlin's daughters, Olivia Jade and Isabella, have reportedly withdrawn from USC amid an ongoing college admissions cheating scandal. TMZ reports that the girls dropped out of USC as soon as school officials started investigating the case. The report says the school will be holding a hearing to determine if they will be banned from USC grounds.        Chinese state media is reporting at least 44 people are dead after an explosion at a chemical plant in the eastern part of the country. The China Earthquake Administration reported that the explosion likely triggered a two-point-two earthquake. Nearly 100 people were injured. The explosion took place about 260 miles north of Shanghai.        An up-and-coming country music star is dead of an accidental gunshot. Justin Carter was reportedly filming a music video in Texas when a gun that was being used as a prop accidentally went off. A post on Carter's Facebook page asks fans to keep Justin's family in their prayers. It adds that he was always full of laughter and joy, and will be missed by all.
