WOONSOCKET, R.I.: Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced today that Woonsocket City Hall will
reopen its Treasury/Tax Collection Division Office to the public on Wednesday, July 15th between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Treasury/Tax Collection Office had been closed to the public since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fire Chief Paul Shatraw has worked to institute precautionary safety guidelines for Treasury/Tax Collection visitors that will include a temperature scan and hand sanitizing upon building entrance, mask wearing at all times inside of the office, social distancing while waiting in line both inside of the office and outside of City Hall, and providing certain contact tracing information. The City has installed plexiglass shields in the tax payment windows to further
protect office visitors and City employees. Individuals who are not feeling well with COVID-19
symptoms will not be allowed entrance into City Hall and are encouraged to schedule a test for
the COVID-19 virus at the Thundermist Health Center.
“I am pleased to be able to reopen to the public one of our most utilized City Hall offices,
especially during the upcoming, usually busy property tax payment period. The first quarter tax
payment due date has been extended to August 3rd and there are taxpayers who may want to
pay their taxes in person,” stated Mayor Baldelli-Hunt. “We have been planning this careful and
responsible reopening of our Treasury/Tax Collection Office for a long time, and Fire Chief
Shatraw has worked hard to develop comprehensive safety procedures to make visits to this
office as safe as possible for the public and for our City staff,” added the Mayor.
The Mayor further explained, “The number of tax bills due for payment by the extended August
3rd date will be less than in previous years due to our holding the mailing of motor vehicle/excise tax bills until later in the summer when the Rhode Island Legislature has officially determined this year’s car tax phase out amount in the State Budget. This should make our in-person tax payment lines more manageable in the near-term and will help provide a safer tax paying experience for all.”

Though the City Hall Treasury/Tax Collection Office will now be open for in-person tax and fee
payments, the public is encouraged to utilize the alternative payment methods that the City
offers. Taxpayers can either place their checks or money orders (no cash please) in the wooden drop box situated inside the double door of the Tax Assessors Office located on the first floor of City Hall; mail their tax payment to: City of Woonsocket, Treasury Division, PO Box B, 169 Main Street, Woonsocket, RI 02895; pay by credit card by calling the Treasury/Tax Collection Office at (401) 767-9276; or pay by credit card online at www.riegov.com.

Though the remainder of City Hall Departments will be closed to the public, all Departments
continue to be fully staffed and available to respond to inquiries and requests during normal
