National Grid utility pole #1 on Kennedy Street in Woonsocket was sheared off at the base just before noon today by a gold colored SUV which quickly left the scene with extensive damage to the vehicle.  This utility pole services all the Internet, Telephone, and transmitter control service for O-N AM & FM Radio.  Miraculously, service was not interrupted and the stations continue broadcasting.

The driver was located within minutes by Woonsocket Police, after large pieces of the vehicle torn off and left behind at the scene led to the identification of the vehicle’s make and model.

National Grid crews are on scene now replacing the pole.  No service outage is expected during their work.
