AARP Rhode Island Sponsors Progreso Latino’s Bridge the Digital Divide Project

We are pleased to announce AARP Rhode Island’s sponsorship of Progreso Latino’s new initiative to bridge the digital divide and social isolation by offering older adults in the Blackstone Valley a hotspot and tablet lending program. AARP’s generous sponsorship will enable Progreso Latino to provide greater access and connectivity to underserved immigrant older adults facing language and other barriers. It will also offer virtual engagement opportunities to increase socialization, physical health and economic wellbeing.

In addition to AARP RI’s critical role in sustaining Progreso Latino’s Digital Connectivity Program, the organization is partnering with the University of Rhode Island’s Engaging Generations Cyber-Seniors digiAGE Pilot. Older individuals who participate in this program will receive an iPad, hotspot with technology support, including an orientation call upon receiving the iPad, group sessions about the iPad and additional support as needed.

“AARP Rhode Island is pleased to help bring this project to fruition,” said State Director Kathleen Connell. “Access to the Internet, accompanied with technical support, helps bridge a gap that need not exist. We applaud Progreso Latino’s effort to open this door and we are certain it will change the lives of many Rhode Islanders over the course of time.”
