State COVID-19 Vaccination Site at Walnut Hill Plaza Scheduled for “Soft-Opening” on Sunday, March 28th at Walnut Hill Plaza and Detailed Phaseout Plans for Local POD Vaccination Site at Monsignor Gadoury School

The State operated mass vaccination site at the former Sears store located in the Walnut Hill Plaza at 1500 Diamond Hill Road is scheduled for a “soft-opening” on Sunday, March 28th with 400 doses of vaccine (Pfizer) expected to be distributed from 2:00 P.M. through 6:00 P.M. Appointments for this day will be posted and available for scheduling according to current state age and underlying health condition protocols on the state’s website www.vaccinateri.org starting today March 26th at 5:00 PM. This will be the first state mass vaccination site in Northern Rhode Island and will service all Rhode Island residents. This location is for first time vaccinations.

The “Woonsocket and North Smithfield resident only” point-of-distribution (POD) site at the former Monsignor Gadoury School will cease operations after all residents who are currently scheduled to receive their second vaccination dose at that location receive their dose. These already scheduled second doses will be administered over the next two weeks. The Monsignor Gadoury School POD will close due to plans by the state to concentrate available vaccine doses to the state site in Walnut Hill Plaza.

This state-run site will help ensure that our residents of North Smithfield as well as those residents in neighboring communities are able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in a timely manner.

The state COVID-19 vaccination site on Walnut Hill Plaza will administer vaccines by “appointment only” according to state eligibility requirements. New appointments will be posted on www.vaccinateri.org on Tuesdays at 9:00 AM and Fridays at 5:00 PM. Anyone unable to register for an online vaccination appointment can receive help by calling 844-930-1779. The state vaccination site on Diamond Hill Road is planning to initially be open two days a week starting the week of April 4th and will expand days of operation as vaccine allocations increase.

North Smithfield residents who have called the North Smithfield Town Hall to registered for a vaccine at the North Smithfield/Woonsocket POD at the Monsignor Gadoury School, but who have not yet received their first vaccine, will need to re-register on the States website at www.vaccinateri.org or by calling 844-930-1779.

New Information for Homebound Vaccinations

We want to make everyone aware that the three vendors that were contracted by the

State to conduct homebound vaccinations have begun scheduling and performing homebound vaccinations this week. We want to make you all aware that your residents who completed the online survey may receive calls from one of these three vendors: MedTech, Alert Ambulance, and PACERI, in order to schedule at date/time

to receive their vaccination at the address they provided. We know that some individuals are skeptical of receiving cold calls, especially those who are elderly and have been targeted by scammers in the past, so we appreciate you reassuring them that if they completed the survey and are contacted by one of these vendors it is legitimate and they should go ahead and work with the vendor to schedule their appointment as soon as possible.

Please also be aware that these three vendors should not be contacted directly to set up a homebound vaccination appointment but rather people must complete the online survey to get on the list of people to be served, the survey is located here:  http://bit.ly/homeboundvax .

On Wednesday, March 24, 2021, North Smithfield

celebrated our 150th Anniversary!

We had participants in person and virtually. We were fortunate to have Richard Keene of the Heritage Association speak and educate us on the history of North Smithfield separating from Smithfield.

A special thank you to Kate Pasquariello, Parks & Recreation Coordinator, for putting the celebration together, Parks & Rec members Ann Fieler-Lilley and April Lombardi for baking cakes and delivering them to our Police, Fire, DPW & Schools, and to Wright’s Dairy for providing a cake to the Town Hall.

You can see the video of the event and listen to the history from Richard Keene on the North Smithfield Parks & Recreation Facebook Page.

DID YOU KNOW?

You can bring your worn American Flag to the Town Hall for proper disposal. When your flag is worn and no longer fitting for display, bring it to the North Smithfield Town Hall, we have a flag disposal box that was made by an Eagle Scout. Your flag will be disposed of in a proper ceremony.

Making a Difference

Dear Habitat Partner,

I am the President on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity of West Bay & Northern RI. This year will be raising much needed funds and awareness to build 2 new duplexes in Burrillville!

Two of these units will be 2 bedroom and 1 ADA compliant bath with walk in shower for veterans. The other two will be 3 bed and 1 full bath. All applicants must meet certain income criteria of no more than 80% of the Area Median Income, be able to perform 300 hours of sweat equity into the build of the home and be able to pay 0% 30 year mortgage. Please help us during 401Gives, on April 1st.

Habitat West Bay is important to me because it helps change peoples lives! I have seen the impact that a new home can have on family. My best story is about the Baptista family who came here from Venezuela to escape a corrupt regime. Mr. Baptista is a dual citizen who came here with his mother one year prior to the rest of his family coming over. He obtained a job at General Dynamics, and worked hard on his remodeled home in Warwick. Just 2 days before the 4th of July, his wife and 3 daughters arrived just in time to celebrate their first Independence Day!. It brings tears to my eyes every time!

Habitat for Humanity works with families to help them acquire the access, skills and financial education necessary for them to be successful homeowners. By partnering with us, families seize the opportunity and possibility that decent, affordable housing represents. Through shelter, we empower.

401Gives is a 24-hour giving challenge to celebrate the generosity of our great community, so please join this movement by contributing on April 1st! Check out our page here. Please post this link on your Facebook or Instagram page! Every time I see that it is shared, I will personally donate $5!

Thank you for supporting me and Habitat West Bay!

The U.S. Small Business Administration's Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) is reopening to new applicants and offering more flexibility within the program. It is also offering a second round of funding for qualifying recipients.

In 2020, the PPP helped nearly 18,000 Rhode Island businesses secure more than $1.8 billion in funding, and we hope these new resources will help Rhode Island's small businesses in need of assistance.

Here are a few updates and opportunities we want to make sure you are aware of:

Reopening for new applicants. If you have not yet received PPP you will be able to apply. "First draw" PPP forgivable loans will be available for 2.5x your monthly payroll. We invite you to learn about eligibility requirements here. To learn more about the application process and how to apply, please contact your bank.

Those who have already received PPP may be eligible for a second round of funding. Qualifying businesses that experienced at least a 25% reduction in gross receipts between comparable quarters in 2019 and 2020 may apply for a "second draw" forgivable loan for 2.5x your monthly payroll (or 3.5x your monthly payroll for accommodation and food service businesses). Contact your original PPP lender to learn how to apply. More information on this can be found here.

Starting Tuesday, January 19. The SBA application portal recently opened for certain smaller lenders, including community banks and credit unions, and will open to all participating lenders on Tuesday, January 19. For more information, click here.

Lender list available. R.I. Commerce has reached out to lenders to determine which are open to new R.I. applicants. Please consult this growing list of lenders that are receiving inquiries from new applicants.

Other updates for existing PPP recipients. The recent federal stimulus legislation includes several important updates for existing PPP recipients, including increased forgiveness flexibility and updated tax treatment.

Commerce and our partners stand ready to assist. If you have questions about PPP, please fill out the form here.

Additionally, the Rhode Island Small Business Development Center is available to answer additional questions you may have about SBA loans at no cost. You can learn more, and register for free, confidential business advice here.
