Back to Business Program

Governor McKee and Director Weldon have announced the “Back To Business” program, for which SkillsRI serves as the intermediary between the State and small businesses eligible for the program. The State seeks to provide additional support for Covid-19 impacted small businesses struggling to recruit and retain the talent needed for business operations. The “Back to Business” program will provide grants of up to $5,000 to help eligible small businesses provide recruitment and incentive packages to get Rhode Islanders back to work while ensuring employers have the talent they need to remain competitive as we rebuild from Covid-19.

Grant monies will be available on a first-come, first-served basis; however, priority will be given to businesses who have not received funding through similar federal initiatives (such as Restaurant Revitalization Funds or Shuttered Venue Operators Grants) and who have fewer than fifty (50) employees. The application will open at 9:00 am on Thursday, November 4, 2021, and will close at 4:00 pm on Friday, November 12, 2021.  Applications will be available at Back To Business.

Rhode Island employers with fewer than 200 employers are also eligible to apply for funding through the “Back to Business” program.

The employer must attest that it has been impacted by Covid-19 and has faced Covid-related hiring/staffing shortages.

While nationally-owned chain businesses are not eligible to apply, an independently owned and operated Rhode Island business that is part of a regional or national franchise that includes franchisees with locations outside of Rhode Island may.

It’s that time of year again! You’ll notice our officers are going to be rocking some scruffy beards. The North Smithfield Police Department will be participating in No Shave/Nail Polish November. Each participating member of the department will make a donation to a charity of our choice, yet to be determined. We would love to hear any ideas you have!
