Senator Murray Kicks Off 2022 Re-election Campaign

WOONSOCKET - State Senator Melissa Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield) kicked off her re-election campaign for Rhode Island Senate Monday night in front of a crowd of enthusiastic family, friends, and supporters at Lops Brewery.

Senator Murray addressed some of her bills that were passed into law during the previous legislative session, including a bill capping the out-of-pocket cost of insulin at $40 for a 30-day supply. “No one should have to choose between keeping the lights on, buying groceries, or paying for their life saving medication” she stated. “Especially those living on fixed incomes.” Senator Murray also highlighted her bill that made mental health services for those with substance use disorders “essential health services” and now allows in person Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings during a declared disaster emergency. She is especially proud of her bill that provided the first benefit increase in 30 years to families in the RI Works Program; a bill that was included in the budget and lifted thousands of children and families out of deep poverty.

Senator Murray also outlined her priorities for the current legislative session of the General Assembly, which include addressing “Fair Funding Formula” inequities, increasing support for special education students and their parents, ending the unfair double taxation on out of state pensions, amending outdated liquor laws, and supporting craft breweries. She has also introduced a bill that would cap insulin delivery and glucose testing supplies to $25 per 30-day supply.
