RI Legislative Black and Latino Caucus congratulates Marcela Betancur for appointment to Board of Elections

STATE HOUSE – The RI Legislative Black and Latino Caucus, chaired by Rep. Karen Alzate (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket), is congratulating Marcela Betancur for her recent appointment and confirmation to the RI Board of Elections.

“Marcela has been one of the leading voices for Rhode Island’s Latino community for many years and the Caucus is extremely proud of her confirmation as the first Latina woman to be appointed to the Board of Elections.  We have no doubt she will serve Rhode Island’s voters with distinction, as well as continuing the momentum to improve voting access for all of Rhode Island’s residents. We congratulate her on this impressive honor and we look forward to working with her and the Board to ensure that Rhode Island’s elections are safe, secure and accessible to all voters,” said Chairwoman Alzate.

The Rhode Island Legislative Black and Latino Caucus represents and advocates for the interests of disadvantaged people throughout the State of Rhode Island. It seeks to increase a diverse participation and representation in all levels of government. The goal is to close, and ultimately to eliminate, disparities that still exist between white and non-white Americans in every aspect of life.
