GET READY TO HAVE THE GREENEST HOLIDAYS YET

There will be 12 challenges as we celebrate the 12 days of

a green Christmas.

Join daily to learn many ways you can be greener this holiday.

CHALLENGE DAY #10

Electronics (E-Waste)

Can Be Recycled at

Drop Off Events.

Electronic Waste

(E-Waste)

We all love our electronics. At this time of year, we might be buying something or getting a new gadget as a present, leading you to dispose older or broken electronics.

What Do You Do With Old Electronic Waste?

** Keep these items out of the trash! Computers, TVs, monitors and many electronics have toxic materials inside, which should never go in the landfill. Trash is compacted before it is landfilled, causing all those toxins to be released in the air, ground or water. So it is critical they are disposed properly. Many can be recycled - see below.

** Indie Cycle Electronics (E-Waste) Recycling Events. Here in Rhode Island, Indie offers many electronic events where residents can bring their electronics that will be taken apart and recycled.

Indie will take "anything with a plug" - that includes hairdryers, microwaves, computers and more!

Here is the List of Items Indie Accepts

Most items are accepted free, only a few have a disposal fee.

List of Upcoming Events

Residents can attend any event- you do not need to live in that community.

Some Small Appliances

Recycle @ DPW

Some non-computer items with a plug, can be recycled right at your local Public Works Department.

Microwaves, toasters and metal items can often be added in the scrap metal collection.

Below is a listing for municipalities that might offer this locally. To be sure, check with your community before you bring items there.
