Sen. Tikoian sworn in as General Assembly convenes

 

STATE HOUSE — Sen. David P. Tikoian (D-Dist. 22, Smithfield, Lincoln, North Providence) was formally sworn into office Tuesday, Jan. 3, as the 2023-24 term of the Rhode Island General Assembly convened.

Senator Tikoian was one of eight new members of the Senate who took the oath of office, which was administered to all 38 senators by Rhode Island Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore.

The Senate began its legislative year with a program of activities that included the re-election of Sen. Dominick J. Ruggerio (D-Dist. 4, North Providence, Providence) as President of the Senate.

Senator Tikoian has a lengthy professional record of public service. Prior to his election to the Senate in November 2022, he served one, two-year term on the Smithfield Town Council.

Upon graduation from the Rhode Island State Police Academy in 1992, Senator Tikoain served with the State Police for 23 years, rising to the rank of Major/Chief Administrative Officer. From 2017 to 2020, he served as chief of the North Providence Police Department.

In July 2020, Senator Tikoian became director of Transmission and Distribution for the Providence Water Supply Board. In August 2021, he became the Board’s Deputy General Manager.

Senator Tikoian resides in Smithfield. He is a 1986 graduate of Smithfield High School, a 1988 graduate of the Community College of Rhode Island and a 1990 graduate of Bryant University, earning a BS in Business Administration.
