Sen. Britto sworn in as General Assembly convenes

 

STATE HOUSE — Sen. Robert Britto (D-Dist. 18, East Providence, Pawtucket) was formally sworn into office Tuesday, Jan. 3, as the 2023-24 term of the Rhode Island General Assembly convened.

Senator Britto was one of eight new members of the Senate who took the oath of office, which was administered to all 38 senators by Rhode Island Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore.

The Senate began its legislative year with a program of activities that included the re-election of Sen. Dominick J. Ruggerio (D-Dist. 4, North Providence, Providence) as President of the Senate.

Senator Britto previously served three terms as the Ward 1 representative on the East Providence City Council serving as the council’s president.

A graduate of Stonehill College, Sen. Britto works as a design and construction specialist at Rhode Island Housing and Mortgage Finance Corp.

Originally from Providence, he has lived in East Providence for more than 23 years. He and his wife, Danielle, have four children. They reside in Rumford.
