Happy Almost Thanksgiving!

What's Happening in North Smithfield

Message from Town Administrator
Gary Ezovski

Last Saturday, our local VFW Chapter held a brief ceremony at the monument near Carpenter's Corner across from Slatersville Plaza.  While the veterans present obviously deserve our appreciation and respect for their service, they also warrant our gratitude for their never-ending mission to be sure that we all have a reminder of the dedication it takes to serve in a military uniform.  Our VFW Chapter may have sold their long-time home but their spirit as soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines clearly lives on.  It was encouraging to have such a great turnout from the families that are Cub Scout Pack 7 at the ceremony.  I am certain that the number of people present was a message of encouragement to the VFW contingent who continues to carry and honor our flag.

In observance of Thanksgiving Day, Town Hall and Town Hall Offices will be closed on Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th.

Trash, recycling, and yard waste WILL NOT be collected on Thursday, and will be postponed 1 day for the rest of the week.

Curbside yard waste pickup will continue until Friday, December 1st

The North Smithfield Water Department will be conducting WATER SYSTEM MAINTENANCE on Monday, November 20th from 9:00 PM until 11:00 PM.

Maintenance enhances the water quality for area residents and businesses.

This work may cause temporary reduction in water pressure throughout the water system.  Some discoloration of water may occur.  This is not harmful.

Department officials recommend limited water use during this operation.  This includes using water to wash clothes and dishes.

Check your water before use.  If it is discolored, run the cold water until it clears.

For information call: the water department

at 767-2200, ext. 320 or ext. 305

between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM

Monday through Friday.

Town Of North Smithfield Accepting

Used Motor Oil Again

The North Smithfield Highway Garage, 281 Quaker Highway, is now ready to accept used motor oil again at our facility.

Individuals can bring used motor oil and filters to the garage during our Saturday open hours of 9 am - 3pm.  Motor oil should be oil only and should not be mixed with water, gasoline or other liquids.

The highway garage also accepts scrap metal items, rigid plastic items (free of metal handles, bolts etc.) and for a short time, excessive yard waste residents have because of our recent wind storm.  Yard waste can be in brown lawn bags or loose, but branches must be less than 2 inches in diameter.

Residents with larger branches from the storm, the town is offering chipping service until November 17th.  Branches up to 7 inches in diameter are accepted and long branches are fine.  For chipping, longer branches are easier to handle, so please to do not cut into small sections.

Households needing chipping service can schedule service by calling the Public Works department, 767-2200 x 348. Leave the branches with the thick end to the street which  allows our crew to easily grab them.

For bags of yard waste, our town curbside yard waste pickup collection will continue until Friday, December 1st.   This allows households to have yard waste in lawn bags or cans collected weekly right at their home.  Smaller bundles of branches under 2 inches in diameter and less than 3 feet are also allowed.
