Tonight, we have an extended weekend lane closure on Route 138 at the Pell Bridge Ramps Project in Newport, and the start of a longer-term ramp closure from Route 146 South to I-295 North at the Route 146 Project in Lincoln. Motorists will take the next exit, reverse direction, then follow Route 146 North to the I-295 North on-ramp.

Airport Connector, Warwick

We are scheduled to seal the median barrier, and install the “Discover RI” sign with a left lane closure on the Airport Connector, from I-95 North to Post Road, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. We also anticipate partial lane closures for sidewalk and curbing work on Post Road, from Warwick Avenue to the Airport entrance, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Next week, crews plan to install drainage, curbing on Massasoit Avenue and South Angel Street, pave the roadway that will ultimately connect Massasoit Avenue and the Henderson Expressway, and continue demolishing the existing Henderson Bridge.

I-95 North Viaduct, Providence

Various ramps will be closed next week as needed within the I-95/Exit 37 interchange to continue building the wall next to the Providence Place Mall parking garage and to install overhang brackets. Motorists will need to follow the signed detours during these operations Sunday-Thursday nights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Alternating lane closures on I-95, from Exits 37A to 39A, are also scheduled at this project for the wall work, plus the installation of median barrier at the Smith Street Bridge center pier, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers should also expect street parking restrictions and alternating lane closures for daytime bridge work on Charles Street North, from Randall Street to Corliss Street, and Ashburton Street South, from Corliss Street to Charles Street, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pell Bridge Ramps, Newport

As a reminder, tonight at 5 p.m. we’ll have an extended weekend left lane closure on both directions of Route 138 between the Pell Bridge and JT Connell Highway to replace the center median. On Tuesday night from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., we anticipate left lane closures at the rotary and right lane closures on JT Connell Highway, from the Route 138 Underpass to Van Zandt Avenue, to install the new traffic signal poles.
During the day next week, we plan to continue working on drainage swales off-road Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. along the Park and Ride and corner of JT Connell Highway and JT Connell Connector, and grading and placing sidewalks along JT Connell Highway, with a right lane closure from the Underpass to Van Zandt Avenue, Monday-Friday during the same time period. Additionally, we will continue to remove and dispose of the old existing traffic signal equipment, with shoulder closures at the intersection of Van Zandt Avenue/JT Connell Connector, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will also adjust the utility structures, prior to final paving, and install the fiber optic cable along JT Connell Highway, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 6/10 Interchange Reconstruction, Providence

We plan to restripe Route 6 West, with alternating lane closures from the flyover bridge to Plainfield Street, Wednesday night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Thursday night, we are scheduled to install a drainpipe across Route 10 South, with alternating lane closures approaching Union Avenue from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Daytime activities off-alignment next week include drainage work at the Route 6 Viaduct and gravel placement along the proposed shared use path adjacent to Service Road 1, Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Route 37 Improvements, Cranston/Warwick
|
|
Bridge Group 51B: I-295 area
On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, April 9 and 10, steel girders will be delivered to the project site. This will involve frequent vehicle access in/out of the work zone on I-295 in the vicinity of Route 37 (Exits 3A and 3B), from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. We are scheduled to install these barriers the following week on Sunday and Monday nights, April 14 and 15, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should expect an overnight left lane closure on I-295 North in the vicinity of Route 37, plus multiple intermittent short-term closures (approximately 25 minutes in length) of I-295 North at Route 37. We will also need to close the exit from Route 37 East (Exit 1B) to I-295 North during the same time period for these installations. Please follow signed detours during all closures.
Next week, overnight guardrail replacement requires alternating lane closures on I-295 North, between Route 37 and Phenix Avenue, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Daytime work on both the Cranston Street Ramp Bridge and the Cranston Street Bridge will involve alternating one-way traffic and frequent vehicle access in/out of the work zones on Cranston Street, under Route 37, Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Route 146, Lincoln/North Smithfield

|
Tonight at 10 p.m., through the fall, we’re closing the on-ramp from Route 146 South to I-295 North for bridge work. Next week, we need to close Exit 18B off I-295 North to Route 146 North for bridge construction, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. We also plan to demolish overhead signs, requiring the closure of Route 146A South at the Spring Brook Bridge and rolling roadblocks on Route 146, from Route 99 to Route 146A, Monday and Tuesday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Overhead sign removal is also anticipated Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., with alternating lane closures on Route 146, from Route 99 to Route 146A. Overnight bridge demolition and construction will take place on I-295 and Route 146, respectively, with alternating lane closures on I-295 at the Route 146 interchange, and the exclusion of left turns from Route 146 to Sayles Hill Road, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Road construction will also involve alternating lane closures on Route 146, from Route 146A to the Massachusetts line, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Sayles Hill Road, from Route 146 to Iron Mine Hill Road, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the closure of the westbound lane on the east side of Sayles Hill Road, from Route 146 to Route 99, Monday-Friday during the same time period. Please follow signed detours during all closures.

This week, our crews were busy paving the added lanes on I-195 through the Washington Bridge crossover. Tonight, Friday, April 5, we’re planning to pave and install signage on I-195 West, with the right lane closed from Broadway to South Main Street, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., our crews will install signs, reconfigure barrier and stripe, with alternating lane closures on both directions of I-195, from South Main Street to Broadway.
