CITY TO DEBUT NEW EQUIPMENT FOR BALLFIELDS
WOONSOCKET, R.I.: Woonsocket Little League players can expect to play upon a field of dreams at City ballfields when they arrive on Opening Day this Saturday now that City crews are utilizing a new ride-on tractor specifically designed for grooming the clay, dirt and baseball mix to prepare each field’s hard surfaces.
“This state-of-the-art machine is an immense time and labor saver for City field crews,” stated Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. “Maintaining the ball fields will be much easier. The difference between completing this task manually compared to using this machine is significant.”
A 2019 Toro SandPro 5040 Traction Unit with four attachments for weeding, edging, dragging and resetting displaced material arrived on Friday, March 29 and was immediately put to use.
Director of Department of Public Works Director Steven D’Agostino is impressed with the new unit’s bandwidth. “Our crews will be able to consistently maintain the fields and with greater efficiency and more effectively than manually. We will definitely be able to cover more ground in less time.”
I would like to thank Superintendent of Parks and Recreation Elizabeth Kerrigan who researched and located this new Toro SandPro.
