North Smithfield Clean & Green Day
This year, we are celebrating our Annual Clean & Green Day on the actual Earth Day holiday, Saturday, April 22nd. Save the date and come participate in our event which has become one of the largest community clean-up efforts in the state. Up to 500 volunteers come out to help remove multiple tons of litter from town roadways, parks and riverbanks each year.
Volunteers can pre-register for the event at www.nsmithfieldri.org, and adopt an open cleanup location. Registration is also available the morning of the event, between 8-9am at Halliwell School, 358 Victory Highway Slatersville RI.
Trash bags, a limited supply of gloves and bright volunteer t-shirts will be provided. In the morning, coffee and donuts will also be offered. In an effort to host a trash free event, volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work gloves and a re-fillable water bottle. The clean-up time runs from 9am to Noon.
The clean-up provides a great opportunity for our town to come together to help this issue. Scout troops and students are able to earn community service hours. Local businesses can show their support by becoming a sponsor where funds go directly to purchase needed T-shirts and supplies that keep our volunteers safe while on the roads.
Donations can be made to "Town of North Smithfield/Clean & Green Day" P.O. Box 248, Slatersville, RI 02876. Sponsors are recognized on our website, at our registration site and in the media.

These items are not recyclable. The paper is too thin
and is usually soiled- so these items belong in the trash.
When wrong items get placed in our recycling
program, it creates problems. The thin paper fibers, when wet turn into gunk and contaminates and sticks to good recyclables and the equipment. This damages the machinery and causes down time to repair.
Please place all tissues, napkins and paper towels in your trash bag. That's Recycling Smart!
