Mayors Taveras, Fung, Senator Reed to Host Military Job Fair, Roundtable on Military Employment
Federal officials and employment experts to join roundtable discussion
Job Fair sponsored for active and veteran service members and their families
PROVIDENCE, RI ? Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung will join with U.S. Senator Jack Reed for a special Roundtable on Military Employment on Friday, April 26, 2013. The event will be held on the fifth floor rotunda of the Rhode Island Convention Center from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
A Military/ Veterans Job Fair sponsored by Mayor Taveras, Mayor Fung and Senator Reed will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the adjacent fifth floor ballrooms A, D and E. Roundtable participants will include Mayor Angel Taveras; Mayor Alan Fung; U.S. Senator Jack Reed, member of the Armed Services Committee and veteran; U.S. Assistant Secretary Jane Oates, Employment Training Administration; Paul Harrington, director of labor market studies at Drexel University; and Major General Kenneth R. McBride, the Adjutant General and Commanding General of the R.I. National Guard.
The roundtable discussion will be facilitated by Public Safety Commissioner Steven M. Paré. Other invitees include leaders of business, academia, military, labor and elected officials. The roundtable will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., with roundtable participants available for interviews following the discussion.
The two events are sponsored by Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense Employer Support for Guard and Reserves, Hero 2 Hired, the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training, the cities of Providence and Cranston and the R.I. Broadcasters Association. The Job Fair is part of a series of Mayors? Job Fairs, a new partnership to promote employment.
