NORTH SMITHFIELD – The North Smithfield Animal Control Officer advises pet owners to use extra caution when leaving pets outside or in a vehicle during the summer months.

“I have already responded to several calls about animals being left in cars on hot days” said Scott Goodwin, NS Animal Control Officer, “Use common sense with your pets, if you are hot so are your pets”. If it is 85 degrees outdoors the temperature inside a car can reach 109 degrees in just 20 minutes.

Under RI General Law Chapter 4-1 any person in charge or in custody of an animal that subjects that animal to cruelty or suffering may be charged with Cruelty to Animals.
