Town Tax Bills Mailed

Most of you will be receiving your tax bills this week. If you made significant improvements to your property, you will see an increase in taxes, however, most residents will see a

reduction in taxes.

We were also able to raise the vehicle exemption from $500 to $675.

Please note that the lock box in Boston, which had been used to mail tax payments, is no longer in service, and has been closed. Bank of America has sent a confirmation that all lock box payments will be forwarded to 575 Smithfield Road for 90 days, after that they will be returned to the sender.

Residents who escrow taxes have received tax bills; however a duplicate bill was also sent to their bank or mortgage company.

The tax billing cycle runs as follows:  January 01, 2012 to December 31, 2012 and is billed in July of 2013 with 4 equal payments due beginning August 15th. To clarify for those who may have sold property such as vehicles during this year, you are receiving a bill that is based on LAST year's ownership.

Sewer bills have been mailed, and Water bills will be delivered the week of August 5th

after Town Council approval.

If you did not receive a tax bill, please email TBoss@nsmithfieldri.org the tax assessor or call the Assessor's office at 767-2200 ext. 325.  Please expect to receive a call back within 48 hours.

Failure of the Town of North Smithfield to send or the taxpayer to receive a tax bill will not excuse the non-payment of the tax or affect its validity or proceedings of collection of the tax RIGL 44-7-7.

All payments should be mailed to the Tax Collector, or placed in the drop box outside the Municipal Annex building, 575 Smithfield Road, North Smithfield, 02896-- to avoid waiting in line.

If you would like a receipt, please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your payment and we will gladly provide the receipt to you by mail.

Questions or appeals on house or business values should be directed to 767-2200 extension 325 or 323.

All inquiries about collections should go to extension 511, 328 or 326.
