This traffic signal has been erected to provide a better flow of traffic over the historic Stone Arch Bridge in Slatersville. RIDOT has this bridge scheduled for replacement sometime in early 2014. Due to damage recently sustained to a parapet, DOT decided to restrict traffic down to one lane, to reduce potential for additional damage to that side of the bridge.

In the past few months, I have worked with RIDOT to provide some signage and relief to that area, as the traffic can back up to Industrial Drive during rush hours. Allowing one car at a time to pass over the bridge was not providing drivers with easy access. Since we will need to have the bridge restricted for an extended time, we wanted to look for a better solution.

They have been extremely helpful in providing a more permanent solution with the new traffic signal. It can be timed to adapt to certain times of day when the traffic becomes heavy. The Town and RIDOT have a great partnership and I want to thank them for attempting to reduce the impact of this bridge restriction.
