MILFORD, MA (2013) - The nominees and winner of the Senator Louis Bertonazzi Foundation “Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award” for 2013 were introduced at the Milford Public Schools “Welcome Back” event held at the high school auditorium. All Milford school system personnel attend this event and the winning teachers are presented their awards at this gathering of all their peers.

Nominees are each introduced and presented plaques and then the winner is given an award in the form of an inscribed book plaque along with a check for $1,000.

The Senator Louis Bertonazzi Foundation annually awards this education prize as well as a cultural award and a citizenship award. The $1,000 citizenship award was most recently won by the town of Upton as the best voting community for 2011 and 2012.

Recommendations for the awards may be offered by teachers, students, parents or any citizen of Milford. These recommendations are given to each school council. The school councils review and then choose the winning school nominees. These seven nominees then present a package reflecting their goals and accomplishments in the classroom and in the community.

The Foundation Board of Directors reaches out to seven citizens of the community who serve as a selection committee and choose the winner.

The Senator Louis Bertonazzi Foundation Board of Directors are Dr. Carl DiGregorio, Chairman, Michael Diorio, Treasurer, Atty. David Bertonazzi, Clerk, and Directors Cynthia Casey, Gail Crimaldi, Joseph Nigro, Thomas Cullen Patrick Niro and Stanley Jones.
