On 09-13-13 about 7:00 PM members of the North Smithfield Police Department responded to 175 St. Paul St. for a report of an animal complaint.  Upon arrival, officersdetermined that a mixed breed canine had left its residence at 155 St. Paul St. and initially attacked another canine (Greyhound), at 175 St. Paul St.  During this time, the owner of the Greyhound, Wanda Misiaszek, attempted to stop the attack and was bitten herself by the mixed breed dog.

It was determined that the owner of the mixed breed dog from 155 St. Paul St. was William Figuerido and that he had owned the dog for about 3-4 weeks.  The dog had been adopted by Figuerido from the North Kingstown Animal Shelter.  After the incident theAnimal Control Officer was advised of the incident and a determination was made to quarantine the dog at 155 St. Paul St. for 10 days. Both Misiaszek and her dog required medical treatment for bite / puncture wounds.

It was later learned on Monday 09-16-13 that Figuerido had returned the dog back to the North Kingstown Animal Shelter because he no longer wished to keep the dog.  This was confirmed by North Smithfield Animal Control Officer.  As of this time, the dog remains quarantined in the North Kingstown Animal Shelter.
