NORTH SMITHFIELD – The Town of North Smithfield is underway in developing a plan to review the potential use of all municipal buildings.  The Public Facilities Task Force recently held a meeting with Robinson, Green and Beretta (RGB) to discuss the role that RGB will have in the process. It was agreed that the architectural engineering firm will contact each department head in all town offices to obtain data concerning use of space, space needs and interaction between departments. Additionally, the company will assess each building to determine reconfiguration or rehabilitation costs. The entire process is due to wrap up by the end of this year.

Recommendations as to consolidation, rehabilitation, and other options will be presented to the Task Force and the Town Council. Before final decisions are made, the town will hold public hearings during the first half of 2014. Residents will have an opportunity to voice their opinion on the final report, with a ballot question expected to be placed on the November 2014 ballot.
