NORTH SMITHFIELD – The deep freeze and heavy rain is taking its tolls on roads throughout the area. We are very aware of the deterioration of many streets in the town of North Smithfield. Pound Hill road is a prime example. The road has actually caved in on one side. Over the past few days, we have purchased and used cold patch to attempt to reduce the wear and tear on your vehicles. The problem is that the rain storm took most of the patch and carried it away. Cold patch is always just a temporary fix, but during the winter months, when we cannot use hot mix, it’s better than nothing.
The Town Council has authorized an independent engineering study of all streets to determine prioritization of repair as well as cost. Pound Hill Road is one of the top listed streets. During the spring, we expect to being repairing, however, in November, we hope to place a bond before the voters that, if approved, would assist us in repairing all streets in a one year time frame, instead of piecemeal. As always, you may contact Town Hall at (401) 767-2200 with any questions.
