Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced today that, from March 11th to March 13th, the Rhode Island State Elks Association will be hosting Milton, “Big Milt” Creagh, a nationally known motivational speaker from Chicago. Baldelli-Hunt said that Creagh is noted for his inspirational style, his “Cosbyesque” humor and his unique ability to connect with young people. She added that his message will resonate across the community and motivate his listeners to strive for academic excellence, believe in their passions and realize that hard work often makes the difference between success and failure.
Creagh, the grandson of a slave, sent all of his fourteen children to college, while demanding that they take personal responsibility for their actions and to understand that skin color and ethnicity are meaningless in our diverse society.
Creagh will be speaking to the students of grades 6 and 7 at the Villa Nova and Hamlet Middle Schools in the city on Tuesday, March 11th, followed by a question and answer session.
Baldelli-Hunt praised Creagh’s unique ability to engage our students and help them to grasp these most important issues. “I welcome him with open arms and, together with Joyce C. Berube of the Woonsocket Elks Lodge #850 and their successful drug awareness program, I thank him for coming to Woonsocket and a very special thanks to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Rhode Island State Elks Association.”
