WHAT:      Woonsocket youth will participate in the Kick Butts Day event at Rhode Island State House and Kennedy Plaza, Providence, Rhode Island. Zombies representing smokers back from the dead will distribute information to help encourage current smokers to quit.

WHERE:   Rhode Island State House, Wednesday, March 19, from school dismissal to return to city at 6pm.

MESSAGE: Kick Butts Day

To recognize the 19th National Kick Butts Day, March 19, 2014, local and area youth from the Woonsocket High School, Woonsocket Thundermist Wellness Program Thunderkids and the Beacon School for the Arts will participate in the event organized by the Rhode Island Department of Health Tobacco Control Program, Tobacco Free Rhode Island and The Woonsocket Prevention Coalition (WPC). Woonsocket youth, their Student Advisors and WPC staff will join forces with other statewide youth and adults to urge Rhode Island smokers to quit—Zombie style!

The event, inspired by the British National Health Service’s new anti-smoking campaign, includes youth dressed as zombies and wearing zombie make up who will lead a 3:00pm press conference at the RI State House, then depart with a Providence police escort to Kennedy Plaza in Downtown Providence where the zombies will distribute Quit Smoking information.

The 2:30pm makeup session and costumes will transform youth to represent smokers who have died from smoking and tobacco-related diseases. The Zombies will walk to Kennedy Plaza and present smokers and members of the general public with smoking cessation resource guides and serve as powerful reminders of the dangers of tobacco use.
