Six Schools Come Together for the First RI Catholic Elementary/Middle School Diocesan Band Festival

Woonsocket – On Tuesday, April 8th at 6:30pm, the first Rhode Island Catholic Elementary/Middle School Diocesan Band Festival will be held in Mount Saint Charles Academy's gymnasium.

The festival will be comprised of 150 band students from the following schools:  Sacred Heart School, St. Pius V School, Mercymount Country Day School, Our Lady of Mercy, Good Shepherd Catholic School, and Mount Saint Charles Academy.

Each band has 20-40 members, so as a result they're used to playing in small groups. The festival gives each school's band the opportunity to play with a mass group.

The idea for the festival was a result of a collaboration of the six schools' music directors.  "Among the directors, we spoke back and forth," Marc Blanchette, Mount's usic director, said. "Since each band is accustomed to smaller groups, when they all of a sudden have the chance to play in a 150 member band, it becomes a big deal."

The first part of the show will include performances by some of the individual school bands. The second part will be a performance by the 150 member combined band.  Admission to the festival is free and refreshments will be available during intermission.
