 Earth Day Cleanup

As part of the Clean Up Woonsocket effort on Saturday April 19th, the City of Woonsocket Solid Waste Division in conjunction with Waste Management of Rhode Island will be passing out FREE trash grabbers to Woonsocket residents.

We have had a long winter with many snowstorms.  Many of the storms were accompanied by high winds resulting in a lot trash being blown around from everyone’s trash and recycling containers.  All that trash has littered our streets, our wooded areas, our streams and our parks.

For Earth Day 2014 we are asking everyone to clean the street that they live on.  Easy as that!

If the street is already clean or you would like to do more, then we ask that you pick litter in neighboring woods, streams and/or parks.

Approved clean up bags, gloves and trash pickers will be passed out upon check in.  The trash pickers and gloves will be yours to keep!  We ask that you continue throughout the year to help keep Woonsocket clean by using the trash pickers to collect and properly dispose of litter that you see.

Place the full approved clean up bags (only the approved clean up bags will be collected) and larger collected items along the side of the roadway in the area that you are cleaning.  A City truck will come by and properly dispose of the waste.

Check In

-Saturday April 19

-8am—10am

-943 River St, Woonsocket Recycle Facility, located on the premises of the Woonsocket Public Services Division

It is important to check in so that we know where you will be leaving the collected litter.

We will also be hosting a FREE paper shredding event on April 19th at the Woonsocket Recycle Facility for Woonsocket residents (residential properties only).

The shredding will run for 8am—12pm (unless the trucks fills before 12pm).

The hours of the recycle facility will be extended for that one day; operating from 7am to 3:30pm.

Recyclables include: TVs, all electric waste (anything with a cord on it including computers and monitors), metals of all shapes/sizes, clothing, books, propane tanks, Styrofoam, rigid plastic, vegetable oil, large cardboard, all appliances (stoves, refrigerators, air conditioners, grills, etc.)

Questions can be directed to the Solid Waste Division at (401) 767-8880.
