“Invest in NS” is the Town’s latest undertaking for upgrades to schools, municipal buildings and roads. Part of this project will include the demolition of Halliwell School, saving an estimated $3 million in short and long-term repairs. The fifth grade class will be relocated to the middle school. The elementary school will receive a cafeteria and multi-function room addition and an updated fire alarm system. The high school will receive updated science labs and locker rooms.
As part of this project, the Kendall Dean Building will house School and Town offices from the Annex and Memorial Town Hall. This consolidation will make better use of the building and make for a more convenient experience for residents.
A road resurfacing and rebuilding project will be included as part of the bond, addressing the deteriorated state of many North Smithfield roads. Improvements will be made to the top thirty roads in the worst condition as identified by Casali Engineering.
Voters will have a chance to approve these much needed repairs on the November ballot. “This well-thought out, comprehensive project will give the town a face lift that will last for many years” stated Paulette Hamilton, Town Administrator.
