NORTH SMITHFIELD – The Town reminds new and current residents of curbside trash programs

The Town’s trash program is currently “No Bin, No Barrel”. This means that a recycling bin must be placed alongside a trash can, out at the curb. trash limit is only two (2) 36 gallon trash cans regardless of recycling bin quantity. If using a larger trash container, please remember a 72 gallon can is equal to the two 36 gallon can limit; therefore, only part of your trash will be collected if you exceed the limit.

Additional trash that may be accumulated will only be picked up in Town of North Smithfield yellow bags. These bags are available for purchase at the Town Hall, 1 Main St. They are $10 for a five-pack. Most people use these bags after parties or events that create more trash than usual. The Town’s Recycling Program has no limit to the amount of recycling collected each week. Recyclables must be loose in bins, not in plastic or paper bags. Large pieces of cardboard smaller than five feet can be collected if flattened.

One bulky item is allowed out with your trash per week. This does not include construction debris, wood, mattresses, TV’s or hazardous waste.

Please remember, plastic bags, clothing, odd scrap metal items, garden hoses and Styrofoam do NOT belong in the recycling bin.
