NORTH SMITHFIELD- The Town continues to ensure accurate and timely response to motor vehicle, tangible and real property appeals. As in past years, the Assessing department receives many requests to review values of property. Each request will be handled in the order in which it was received and will be resolved as quickly as possible. The Assessing team will continue to keep the process moving and will notify residents when the appeal has been completed.
In addition, new rules have been implemented to add checks and balances; every appeal is in writing and will have a written decision. The Assessing Clerk has begun to re-organize files for better access. New forms have been created, and the laws are being followed. Any appeal that is made by a resident must be reviewed by the Board of Assessing Review and then submitted to the Town Council for approval. The process is underway for those who have submitted an appeal form. Communication from the Assessing office will continue if further documentation is required. Residents may expect a wait of several weeks for completion as the Town Council meets every two weeks.
