Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced that she will meet with the members of the City’s Legislative Delegation to present a Legislative Grant in the amount of $10,000 to the members of the United Veterans Council toward the construction of a veterans’ memorial park off Davison Street. The presentation will take place on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 9:00 AM at the proposed site off Davison Street. This grant was obtained by the City’s delegation to the General Assembly during the last legislative session.

On June 3rd, 2014 the Public Works Department awarded a bid to sell approximately 14.53 tons of structural steel from a former road and bridge project.  The structural steel had been abandoned at the train depot for many years and the city was requested to have it removed.  The removal of this surplus steel generated $2615.40 to the city’s general fund and addressed a long standing problem. Full Circle Recycling, located in Johnston, was the highest bidder at .09 per pound.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- There is still time to take Tennis Lessons this summer, offered by the North Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department. Lessons run until the end of July and single classes are available. Junior classes for ages 7-10 are held on Saturdays from 9:00- 10:30 AM; ages 11-15 from 10:30-12:00 PM. Adult classes are offered on Tuesday or Thursday evenings from 6:00-7:30 PM. Contact Matt Pavao at mpavao13@gmail.com for more information.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- The request of the month from our North Smithfield Food pantry is crackers. Please drop off any donations or monetary gifts for the food pantry at the Slatersville Congregational Church on the Common, between 9 am and noon. An additional drop box is available at Town Hall, 1 Main Street, during regular business hours.
