Mayor Baldelli-Hunt Encourages Walkers To Explore "Hidden Gem" City Trails During Cass Park Track Closure

WOONSOCKET, R.I.: Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt today detailed some of the many trails throughout the City of Woonsocket that walkers can enjoy during the time that the track at Cass Park is closed to accommodate the excavation of gravel for funding the proposed new Cass Park Recreation Complex. The Mayor included both paved and unpaved trails at:

- World War II Veterans Memorial Park (Social Street) An easy, mostly flat terrain highlights a .53-mile walking path loop that begins and ends at the monument and cannon. Open to everyone, a nice quiet spot that accommodates those who like the loop experience a track offers. Also, home to the Mayors Health and Wellness Club - free for ages 55 plus.

- Rivers Edge Recreation Complex (Davison Street) The walking path here encompasses 1.7 miles, starting from the parking lot, ending at the last soccer field, and back. This location is quiet and serene with sights and sounds of birds and water, as well as beautiful seasonal wildflowers and foliage. It is a lovely walk!

- Cold Spring Park (Harris Avenue) Scenic and serene walking paths throughout the park, one of which is a .6-mile segment of the bike path which provides a nice 1.2-mile up and back walk.

- River Island Park (Bernon Street) Central downtown location with walking paths, river views, and sitting areas.

- Globe Park (Avenue A & Coe Street) Scenic paths surrounding an animal, bird, and fish natural pond habitat.

- Costa Park (Fairmount Street & First Avenue) Scenic walking paths.

- Dunn Park (Asylum and Fairmount Streets) Scenic walking paths.

- The Blackstone River Bike Trail Woonsocket is a major component of the 18.8 mile, mostly flat, trail that is wide enough for walkers and cyclists. The trail extends through multiple communities and has great views of the Blackstone River and other natural phenomena.

Mayor Baldelli-Hunt explained, "Woonsocket is blessed to have so many beautiful parks with exceptional, scenic walking trails that are meticulously maintained by our Public Works Department. These are hidden gems within our City, and I recommend that during the track closure at Cass Park, residents and visitors venture out and explore all these inspirational walking trails."

The Mayor also indicated that the Citys Parks Department will soon be announcing a new self-directed walking program open for all residents to participate. More information on this "Walk With Ease" program will be forthcoming.

The Cass Park Track closure is necessary to allow trucks space to move gravel to and from the park, and for equipment storage on the tracks center. A construction fence will be placed for public safety around the track and excavation site. The remainder of Cass Park, including athletic fields, will be open for public usage.

President Trump says the tariffs imposed on other countries are having the desired effect, and he's now open to negotiations. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said his initial tariff plan is over, and he's watching it settle in. He said every country has called, asking to cut a trade deal with the U.S. to avoid the tariffs.        Stocks are closing sharply lower one day after President Trump announced sweeping global tariffs. The S&P 500 had its worse day since 2020 as the White House announced a baseline tariff rate of ten-percent against most countries yesterday that will go into effect on Saturday. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 16-79 to 40-545. The S&P 500 lost 274 points to 53-96. The Nasdaq lost 10-50 points to 16-550.        A multi-day severe weather event is unfolding for more than 55-million people. It comes after at least seven people were killed in the South Central U.S. after storms that included several tornadoes hit the region yesterday. Tonight, there is still a tornado threat for the same areas, but forecasters warn there could also be potentially catastrophic flooding in the Mid-South and Midwest.        The Federal Aviation Administration is offering more support to air traffic controllers at Reagan National Airport. The Critical Incident Stress Management team will be meeting with airport personnel sometime early this month. The FAA is also reviewing the arrival rate at the airport and will conduct regular wellness checks.        The Senate has confirmed Dr. Mehmet Oz as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The television personality was confirmed on a party-line vote of 53-45. Oz now assumes a role that provides health insurance to roughly 160 million Americans.        Steven Spielberg and George Lucas top the latest Forbes list of celebrity billionaires. The latest Forbes ranking of the world's wealthiest people includes 18 celebrities, with film director Steven Spielberg topping the list at five-point-three-billion dollars.
