Representative Place’s Community Based Healthcare Act Seeks to Attract and Retain Healthcare Professionals in RI

 

State House, Providence – In an effort to help bolster timely access to medical professionals in Rhode Island, Representative David Place submitted the Community Based Healthcare Act (LC004849), with the goal of attracting federal funding and creating new programs designed to increase graduate medical education placements in our healthcare facilities.

 

“Leader Chippendale clearly stated in the Republican State of the State Address, ‘the RI Healthcare system is collapsing - we are hemorrhaging practitioners of every discipline from surgeons and specialists down to entry level support positions,’” said Representative Place. “A driving factor of this crisis is the availability of primary care providers. The Community Based Healthcare Investment Act is designed to reinvigorate a program used in the past to train and retain primary care providers, such as Medical Doctors and Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine, serving our community healthcare centers. A major element we intend to fix from the old program, is in providing the healthcare centers with a greater voice in recruiting and training doctors for their residency programs, with the goal of increasing the likelihood of retaining those doctors in those centers.”

 

 

 

The government shutdown is now in its 27th day. This coming weekend, November 1st, government funding for food assistance will run out for about 42 million people. Democrats in the Senate are demanding Republicans address Affordable Care Act subsides set to expire at the end of the year, which would double the average cost of out-of-pocket premiums.        President Trump is now in Japan as he continues his Asia diplomacy tour. He met earlier with Emperor Naruhito at Tokyo's Imperial Palace. Later tonight, he will be meeting with the country's new prime minister as he continues to focus on trade, investment and defense spending.        The U.S. Pacific Fleet says two separate crashes involving U.S. Navy aircraft happened about 30 minutes apart during routine operations over the South China sea. A Sea Hawk helicopter and an F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet went down into the waters and all five crew members were rescued in stable condition. The Navy is investigating both incidents.        President Trump has revealed he had a MRI done as part of his semiannual physical. The president did not give a reason for why he received the MRI at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He told reporters on Air Force One to "ask the doctors" when asked for a reason.        Jamaica is being threatened by Hurricane Melissa, an extremely dangerous Category 5 storm. Forecasters are warning the storm will cause massive flooding, several feet of rain, landslides and high winds in excess of 160 miles per hour. The hurricane is expected to make landfall on the island nation early Tuesday.        This winner a this weekend's box office is the anime film "Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc." It earned just over 17-million dollars in its debut weekend. Meanwhile, "Black Phone 2" dialed in 13-million dollars in its second week.
