Amo Champions Rhode Island’s Commitment to Offshore Wind at First Science, Space, & Technology Committee Hearing
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01) spoke at a House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology Subcommittee on Energy hearing on the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), which advances high-impact energy technologies and develops new ways to generate and use energy. The Congressman underscored Rhode Island’s leadership in clean energy and its status as the home of the nation’s first commercial offshore wind farm.
“I was eager to join this Committee because it is at the forefront of new research and discoveries. That is why today’s topic on the Advanced Research Projects Agency- Energy, or ARPA-E, is so important,” said Congressman Gabe Amo. “Rhode Island is home to our nation’s first commercial offshore wind farm. Made up of five turbines, Block Island Wind Farm produces enough electricity each year to power approximately 17,000 homes.”

Clean energy sources, like offshore wind, are essential to meeting both our energy needs of today and climate goals of tomorrow. ARPA-E’s work on energy storage through the Duration Addition to electricitY Storage, or DAYS Program, and its support for floating offshore wind research will support the expansion of clean energy projects throughout our New England region and across our nation.”
