Woonsocket Proud Exhibit to Open at the Museum of Work and Culture
New exhibit in the Museum’s rotating gallery features artwork from local 5th graders
(WOONSOCKET, R.I.) – The Museum of Work & Culture, a museum of the Rhode Island Historical Society, will host a new exhibit titled Woonsocket Proud in its rotating gallery, featuring the artwork of local 5th graders.
Earlier in the year, educators from the Museum of Work and Culture visited every fifth-grade classroom across Woonsocket’s six public elementary schools as part of an annual program connecting students with the museum. Students had the chance to learn about the city’s history and engage with real museum artifacts. At the end of their visit, each classroom created a collaborative work of art where each student wrote what they loved about Woonsocket onto slips of paper and wove them into handmade looms provided by the Museum. These artworks will be on display as part of the Woonsocket Proud exhibit in the Museum of Work and Culture’s rotating gallery from Friday, June 13th, through Saturday, August 9th.
Students and their families are invited to a private pre-opening reception on Thursday, June 12th, from 4pm-6pm. Light refreshments will be served.
The Woonsocket Proud Program is made possible through the support of a Rhode Island State Senate grant sponsored by Senator Melissa Murray and Senator Brian Thompson.
