ANNOUNCING A NEW INITIATIVE – CONVERSATIONS ABOUT OUR FUTURE

When you are caught in the day-to-day routines of responding to constituent issues and Town Government administration, addressing the community’s big-picture opportunities and challenges frequently fail to get the needed attention. These are the so-called “needle movers.” When you add to this reality the constant negativity and criticism that permeates online diatribe by some, you begin to understand the challenges we face in building a positive community culture.

As elected officials, we are responsible for leaving our community in a better place than when we took office. As the Town Administrator, my campaign platform spoke of the need for internal operating improvements as well as the need for a conversation around our community’s future. Our to-do list for operating improvements is long and aggressive. We are committed to completing this list. Now we want to begin conversations regarding our great community’s future.

Starting in September 2025, I will begin hosting monthly conversations to discuss the future of our town. These events will not be for complaining, but rather opportunities to have a civil, positive discussion about how to transform our community to meet the challenges and opportunities in the future. These will be future forward conversations and may, at times, include guests presenting information and ideas concerning various issues.

These planned discussions will be closed to the media so that all participants can feel free to talk openly. I will also restrict the number of participants to ensure a collaborative conversation consistent with the purpose of these events. I will also work to ensure a continual change in participants. The opportunities, concerns and ideas surfacing in our discussions will be recorded and assimilated into a coherent, vision document.

I look forward to meeting and talking with you soon. More information concerning these monthly conversations will be coming soon.

I hope you have a great Labor Day!

Important Payment Information

If you are paying your real estate, sewer, or water bills through your bank using Bill Pay, DO NOT send the payment to the lockbox Boston address that is listed on your bill. This will significantly delay your payment because the lockbox will reject the payment and forward it to our office because no payment stub is included.

Instead, you will need to create a new vender account using 83 Greene Street, North Smithfield, RI 02896 address. Please allow at least 10 business days for the bank to process your payment. We do not accept EFT and they will need to issue a paper check and mail it to us.
