On Wednesday night, December 17, we’re scheduled to shift travel lanes to the right on Route 37 West between the Route 2 (Exit 1 D-C) and I-295 (Exit 1 B-A) interchanges in Cranston. Motorists can expect alternating lane closures on Route 37 West, from Exit 1D-C to Exit 1 B-A from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and the closure of the ramp from Route 37 West to I-295 North for a portion of the night. Route 146 Reconstruction Project, Lincoln/North Smithfield

Next week, we are scheduled to open all lanes of travel on Route 146 at the Sayles Hill Road Flyover bridge. All northbound traffic will be using the new bridge effective Wednesday night, December 17, and all southbound traffic on Thursday night, December 18. With the movement of all traffic to the flyover bridge, drivers can use the service roads on each side of the highway to access Sayles Hill Road and local businesses. New signals with pedestrian crossing features are in place at the service roads and Sayles Hill Road.

Overnight road and bridge construction involves the closures of the west side of Sayles Hill Road, from Route 146 to Iron Mine Hill Road, and alternating lanes on the East side of Sayles Hill Road, from Route 99 to Route 146, with westbound traffic from Route 99 diverted, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. During the same time, no left turns will be allowed at the intersection of Route 146 and Sayles Hill Road, and travel under the bridge will be restricted.

Weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., road construction will require the closure of the west side of Sayles Hill Road, from Route 146 to Iron Mine Hill Road, and alternating lanes on the east side of Sayles Hill Road, from Route 99 to Route 146, with westbound traffic from Route 99 diverted. Please follow signed detours during all closures, and please feel free to check out our Weekly Traffic Forecast for other listings pertaining to our work along Route 146.

Warwick Corridor Project

Although no lane closures are scheduled next week at this project, we will continue to build support walls at both bridges that carry Route 113 (Main Avenue) over I-95 and I-295, respectively. We will place concrete at the I-95 bridge, and remove forms where concrete has already been placed, at the I-295 bridge. We also expect to install guardrail between both bridges.

Construction-related activities on the new Washington Bridge have been ongoing since June with design, soil sampling, geographic surveying, permit applications, and the ordering of materials. In the next two weeks, crews using boring equipment will be operating on the East Providence shore and on the water. No lane closures are required for this work.

Weather permitting, bridge preservation work is scheduled Sunday-Thursday nights, December 14-18, and Monday and Tuesday nights, December 22 and 23, with up to two lanes closed on I-195 West at the Washington Bridge. One lane will close at 9 p.m., and a second at 10 p.m., with all lanes reopening by 5 a.m. the following morning. We also expect a left lane closure for drainage work on I-195 East, from Exit 1A to Exit 2A, and if time permits, I-195 West, from Exit 2 to Exit 1C, Sunday-Thursday nights, December 14-18, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

On Tuesday nights, December 16 and 23, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., maintenance crews are scheduled to sweep I-195 in both directions within a moving operation from I-95 to the Massachusetts line. Overhead sign maintenance will involve a left lane closure on I-195 East near Exit 1A (India Street), followed by ramp narrowing on the Gano Street on-ramp to I-195 West, Wednesday night, December 17, from 9 p.m.-2:30 a.m.

Weigh-in-motion system maintenance will also require the closure of up to two lanes on I-195 East from the Providence River Bridge to the Washington Bridge, and on I-195 West, from the Washington Bridge to Exit 1C (South Main Street), Sunday-Tuesday nights, December 21-23, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The approved in-water demolition has been completed to the required elevations. Next week, demolition crews will be demobilizing equipment from the project site and doing post-completion inspections. Turbidity curtains will remain in place during this time.
