At approximately 8:15 AM this morning Woonsocket Police responded to 408 Cass Avenue 1st floor right apartment for a sudden death. Family members had gone to that location to check on the well-being of Derek Desjardin, age 30. Desjardin was a resident of that apartment who had failed to report for work.

Upon arrival police determined the victim to be deceased and evidence at the scene indicated that the deceased was possibly the victim of a homicide. Woonsocket Detectives and representatives of the RI Medical Examiner’s Office responded and processed the scene and examined the victim.  It was determined that Desjardin was the victim of a homicide and died as a result of gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to the RI Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination and an autopsy.  

At approximately 10:15 AM Woonsocket Police Officers located a Paul R. Raposo age 26 at River Island Park in Woonsocket. Raposo is a roommate of Derek Desjardin with whom he resided at 408 Cass Avenue and was a person of interest regarding the death investigation of Desjardin. Raposo was taken into custody without incident. At the time of his arrest he was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm pistol.

As a result of this investigation Paul R. Raposo was charged with the following criminal offenses:

 

Domestic Murder

 

Discharge of a firearm when committing a crime of violence with death resulting

 

License or permit required for carrying a pistol

 

Discharging a firearm within City limits

Disney's ABC says it's taking "Jimmy Kimmel Live" off the air "for the foreseeable future" after he made a Charlie Kirk joke. The announcement came after Nexstar Media Group, which operates dozens of ABC-affiliated stations, said it strongly objected to Kimmel's comments.        Flags are being flown at half-staff in Pennsylvania to honor three police officers who were killed in the line of duty. York County authorities say five officers were trying to serve a warrant when someone started firing shots at them. Three officers were killed. The suspected gunman was also killed.        President Trump has arrived at the British Prime Minister's country house northeast of London. Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer are expected to discuss tariffs, Gaza and Ukraine during their visit. The two will hold a press conference later in the day.        Bernie Sanders is the first U.S. senator to openly accuse Israel of committing genocide. The Vermont Independent said Wednesday that Israel is carrying out a genocide in Gaza and that that conclusion is inescapable. Sanders also said Americans must end our complicity in the slaughter.        Weekly jobless claims are down, falling more than most analysts had expected last week. The Labor Department says it received 231-thousand first-time requests in the week ending September 13th. That's a decline of 33-thousand from the previous week's revised total and less than the forecast of 240-thousand.        There's a new A.I. tool that can reportedly predict a person's risk of over a thousand diseases. The generative A.I. tool called the Delphi-2M looks for "medical events" in a patient's history, such as diagnosed illnesses, along with lifestyle factors and the person's age and sex, and can then forecast future health outcomes.
