The Woonsocket Harris Public Library is pleased to announce that Beanstack, our new online summer reading book recording system for grades K-12 will begin on Monday July 6th.

Simply go to www.woonsocketlibrary.org/summer-reading to find the Beanstack link and register. You can record the books you have read and write a summary while earning online badges and real life prizes. Free prizes will be geared to the readers grade level and may include books, bookbags, stickers and bookmarks, a mystery prize, and grab and go activity kits. All prizes will be distributed by contactless curbside pickup by appointment only with the children's or teen librarians.

In New York City, Democrat frontrunner Zohran Mamdani looks to win the mayor's office over former Governor Andrew Cuomo, running as an independent and Republican Curtis Sliwa. In Virginia and New Jersey, voters will choose new governors In California, voters will decide on Governor Gavin Newsom's plan to redraw congressional district maps in an effort to get more Democrats on Capitol Hill.        Elon Musk is endorsing former Governor Andrew Cuomo New York City mayor. Posting on X, the tech billionaire said that a vote for the Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa is a vote for "Mumdumi or whatever his name is." Musk was referring to Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate currently leading in the polls ahead of Tuesday's election.        We're heading into Day 35 of the federal government shutdown, tying the record for the longest shut down in history. The Senate is set to vote for a 14th time to end the impasse and Senate Majority Leader John Thune says he's optimistic that lawmakers will find a solution this week.        The feds say cartels are offering payments to shoot Border Patrol agents on the southern border. According to a letter obtained by NewsNation, federal authorities issued an internal memo saying the Border Patrol's Rio Grande Valley Sector received information about "a coordinated attack" in which cartels may be offering the ten-thousand-dollar payments "to individuals who engage in shooting at" agents.        The widow of Charlie Kirk wants cameras in the courtroom for the trial of her husband's accused assassin. Erika Kirk told Fox News' Jesse Watters there have been cameras "all over" her husband "when he was murdered," so there should be cameras in court. She added she wants people to see "what true evil is."        Tylenol maker Kenvue is being sold. Kimberly-Clark announced a cash-and-stock deal valued at 48-point-seven-billion dollars to buy Kenvue. The deal would bring brands like Huggies and Kleenex under the same roof as Tylenol and Band-Aid.
