Reps. Vella-Wilkinson, Solomon Invite Public to Remotely Experience 9/11 Memorial Event at Oakland Beach

STATE HOUSE — Rep. Camille F.J. Vella-Wilkinson (D-Dist. 21, Warwick) and Rep. Joseph J. Solomon Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Warwick), along with Warwick Mayor Joseph J. Solomon Sr., are inviting the public to experience the memorial service at Oakland Beach in Warwick to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

This year, with the assistance of Capitol Television, last year’s event will be streamed on the General Assembly and City of Warwick websites.

“On behalf of Mayor Solomon, Representative Solomon and myself, we invite the public to commemorate the 19th Anniversary of September 11th from the safety of their homes by watching the ceremony and discussing it with their family,” said Representative Vella-Wilkinson. “With the limitations placed on us by COVID-19, we’re proud that Warwick can stand by its promise to ‘Never Forget.’ Events such as these serve to bring us closer together as we honor those who fell; and it reminds us of the work we still need to do to combat terrorism around the globe.”

The event can be seen on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Channel 61 by Cox Communications, Channel 1061 by Cox HD customers, Channel 34 by Verizon viewers and Channel 15 for Full Channel subscribers. It is also streamed at www.rilegislature.gov/CapTV and WarwickRI.gov.

President Trump says there is a framework of a long-term deal on Greenland. Shortly after announcing the deal framework in a post on Truth Social, Trump told reporters the deal gives the U.S. everything it needs. He went on to call it an "infinite deal" that would last "forever." Trump has repeatedly said the U.S. needs to take control of Greenland for national security purposes.        Wall Street is closing with stocks in the green. It comes after stocks saw a major surge after President Trump announced a "framework" has been agreed to related to the U.S. and Greenland. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 588 points to 49-077. The S&P 500 climbed 78 points to 68-75. The Nasdaq jumped 270 points to 23-224.        The eastern third of the country will be dealing with dangerously cold subzero conditions this week. Strong gusty winds will lead to dangerous wind chills, prompting extreme cold warnings and watches for the northern Plains and the Upper Midwest. More severe weather will be on the way as a major winter storm is expected to be generated and impact a huge area from Texas to the East Coast from Friday and through the weekend.        The Supreme Court looks likely to side with Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook in her fight to stay on the job. The justices today heard arguments in the case involving her August firing by the Trump administration over mortgage fraud allegations. After hearing both sides, court analysts say even the conservative justices seemed skeptical Trump had the authority to remove Cook.        Fewer people are dying from heart disease in the U.S., but it remains the number one cause of death. That's according to a new report from the American Heart Association. The report shows heart disease death rates have dropped for the first time in five years.        The nominees for the infamous Razzies are out now. The award ceremony is known for honoring the best-worst-movies released throughout the year, giving winners the infamous "Golden Raspberry." Disney's live action "Snow White" and Universal's "War of the Worlds" are tied for the most Razzie nominations with six in total, sharing a nomination for the Worst Movie category.
