WOONSOCKET, R.I.: Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt issued the following statement regarding 17 R 70, which will allow the City of Woonsocket to move forward with the demolition of the former incinerator located beside the Woonsocket Fire Department Headquarters on Cumberland Hill Road.

“Passage of 17 R 70 would represent another step in the right direction towards fixing a decades old problem with the ‘poster child’ for blight in our community. Removing blight is critical to improving health, safety, and self-esteem in our neighborhoods. This resolution offers a cost effective way to demolish the former incinerator on Cumberland Hill Road and continue to improve the quality of life in Woonsocket.”

A number of Minnesota officials are testifying at a Congressional hearing on government fraud allegations in the state. Three Republican state lawmakers are appearing before the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, including Representative Kristin Robbins who urged the investigation isn't about Islamophobia. That committee's chairman, Representative James Comer, has also invited Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and state Attorney General Keith Ellison to testify at a future hearing.        The Trump administration says the latest seizure of two Venezuela-linked oil tankers is having its intended effect on the Venezuelan government. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says current Venezuelan leadership has asked to work with the U.S. to get the oil back. Rubio says that's a positive outcome, because it shows leadership knows the only way Venezuela can move forward and generate revenue is to cooperate with the Trump administration.        Nick Reiner's arraignment is set for today for the murder of his parents in Los Angeles last month. Actor-director Rob Reiner and his photographer wife, Michele, died from knife wounds a few hours after their son caused a scene at a holiday party. On Monday, People magazine reported that Nick Reiner was removed from a suicide watch at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.        Dietary guidelines for Americans are getting a change. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s plan aims to completely cut out added sugars, prioritize protein, push vegetables and fruit, reduce the intake highly processed products, eat more whole foods, and end the war on saturated fats. He says with his announcement, the old lies from the government about what are healthy foods stop.        Today marks the one-year anniversary of the devastating Palisades and Eaton fires in Los Angeles County. Both fires started amid an extremely rare, powerful Santa Ana wind event after a dry start to the rainy season. In Pacific Palisades, 12 people died and more than 68-hundred structures were destroyed. A suspect is currently awaiting trial for allegedly starting an earlier fire that reignited into the Palisades Fire six days later.        Washington Huskies quarterback Demond Williams Junior is entering the transfer portal after agreeing to return to the program for 2026. Williams said on social media that he is doing what is best for his future. This comes after he signed a contract with Washington last week with money reportedly near the top of the market.
