Interim Report of the Statewide Grand Jury

On November 16, 2020, the Statewide Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Jairo Esdel Galva with one count of murder, one count of discharging a firearm while committing a violent crime resulting in death, one count of committing a drive-by shooting, and one count of carrying a pistol without a license.

 

The alleged acts occurred in the city of Pawtucket sometime on October 31, 2020. The Pawtucket Police Department conducted the investigation.

 

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on November 19, 2020 in Providence County Superior Court. He is currently being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI).

 

The Supreme Court has still yet to rule on the legality of President Trump's global tariffs. The justices issued opinions today but didn't issue a ruling related to the tariffs. On Monday, Trump said "we're screwed" if the high court rules against the tariffs. The court's decision could have massive implications for American consumers and businesses, the economy and presidential authority.        The Justice Department says there won't be an investigation into the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis last week. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche made the announcement Tuesday. The 37-year-old was shot in her vehicle in what federal officials argue was justified self-defense, sparking protests around the country.        Top White House officials are gathering with the foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland as President Trump ramps up his talk of acquiring Greenland. Wednesday's meetings over the Arctic island will take place at the White House and involve Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This morning in a Truth Social post, Trump said NATO should be leading the way for the U.S. to acquire Greenland.        Former President Clinton could be facing a contempt of Congress charge soon. He failed to show up for a GOP-led House committee hearing yesterday in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, and now, Congressman James Comer says they will move to hold the former President in contempt. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is scheduled to appear tomorrow, but in a joint statement, the Clintons said they will not appear.        NASA is preparing for its first ever medical evacuation from the International Space Station. The four members of Crew-11 are expected to undock from the ISS later today with splashdown set for Thursday morning off the coast of California. The crew, which is made up of two NASA astronauts, their Japanese counterpart and a Russian cosmonaut, was supposed to return in mid-to-late February.        Half of Americans are spending less time looking at screens and it seems to be making them happier. A new survey from Talker Research finds that Gen Z is actually leading the charge when it comes to unplugging, with more than 60 percent intentionally putting down the smartphones. Those numbers start going down the older people are.
