Oscar Hernandez (age 47)

Central Falls, RI

On February 9, 2021, the Providence County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Oscar Hernandez with four counts of first-degree child molestation and three counts of second-degree child molestation. 

 

The alleged acts occurred in the city of Pawtucket on diverse dates between September 1, 2015 and August 31, 2016. The Pawtucket Police Department conducted the investigation.

 

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on March 3, 2021 in Providence County Superior Court. 

 

 

Elder Duarte (age 23)

Providence, RI

On February 9, 2021, the Providence County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Elder Duarte with one count of first-degree sexual assault, one count of first-degree robbery, one count of domestic assault with a dangerous weapon, and one count of domestic simple assault. 

 

The alleged acts occurred in the city of Providence sometime on October 30, 2020.The Providence Police Department conducted the investigation.

 

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on March 3, 2021 in Providence County Superior Court.

 

 

Nigel Nichols (age 35)

ACI, Cranston, RI

On February 9, 2021, the Providence County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Nigel Nichols with one count of murder, one count of discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence resulting in death, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, three counts of discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence resulting in injury, one count of discharge of a firearm from a motor vehicle, and one count of illegal possession of a firearm.

 

The alleged acts occurred in the city of Providence sometime on October 2, 2011. The Providence Police Department conducted the investigation.

 

The defendant is currently serving multiple life sentences at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) for a 2009 double murder. He will be scheduled for arraignment in Providence County Superior Court at a future date.

It's now a recovery operation in central Texas after last week's deadly flooding. In Kerrville and surrounding areas, crews are focused on the recovery phase after the historic flooding has left at least 120 people confirmed dead, and more than 170 still missing. Officials are conducting a "methodical" search operation, saying no stone is being left unturned.        President Trump's order restricting birthright citizenship is being temporarily blocked by a federal judge. The judge also granted class-action status in the case after the Supreme Court limited the ability of judges to block orders nationwide through other means.The judge has stayed his order for seven days allowing the government time to appeal.        Four people were sent to the hospital after protesters clashed with federal immigration agents at a Southern California cannabis farm. The standoff happened Thursday as agents raided the state-licensed facility in Ventura County. Video posted on social media shows agents using less-lethal ammunition and tear gas on a crowd of protesters.        Harvard University is taking down websites for offices related to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. The sites were taken down this week as Harvard launched a new Office for Academic Culture and Community. The move come as the Trump administration has launched an effort to revoke Harvard's accreditation.        Tesla wants to test Robotaxis in Phoenix. Arizona transportation officials say Elon Musk's company has applied for certification to test the autonomous vehicles there. If approved, the Robotaxis would compete with market leader Waymo, which launched its driverless ride-hailing service in Phoenix in 2020.        A new Barbie has Type-one diabetes and a glucose monitor. Mattel is expanding representation with the new doll and said that it allows children to see themselves in the doll while also encouraging play "that extends beyond a child's own lived experience."        -and-99-cents.
