City Council Special Meeting - Mar 03 2021

A federal judge is putting a temporary block on President Trump's order restricting birthright citizenship from going into effect throughout the nation. The judge also granted class-action status in the case after the Supreme Court limited the ability of judges to block orders nationwide through other means. Thursday's ruling stems from a lawsuit brought on behalf of a pregnant immigrant, immigrant parents and their infants.        Crews are searching for the missing victims of the devastating central Texas floods. In Kerrville and surrounding areas, crews are focused on the recovery phase after the historic flooding has left at least 120 people confirmed dead, and more than 170 still missing. Officials are conducting a "methodical" search operation, saying no stone is being left unturned.        President Trump says he's imposing a 35-percent tariff on Canada next month. Trump said it comes as part of a response to "Canada's retaliation" and ongoing trade barriers. In the letter, he went on to accuse Canada of failing to cooperate on key issues, including the flow of fentanyl into the US.        Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum says the U.S. is acting rashly over the threat of a flesh-eating cattle parasite. Sheinbaum on Thursday told reporters that the U.S. decision to close the border again to Mexican cattle imports is overblown. She said that decision was sparked by a single case of the New World screwworm. The screwworm is a parasitic fly that the U.S. declared eliminated here in 1966.        Larry David is working with the Obamas on an HBO show. The "Curb Your Enthusiasm" creator will be starring in what HBO describes as an "American history sketch comedy series" produced by Higher Ground, the company run by former President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.        Justin Bieber's seventh studio album is out now. The hype started yesterday when he posted a picture of a billboard with a track list on social media. The new project is called "Swag" and marks Bieber's first album since 2021's "Justice."
