Former Burrillville substitute teacher arraigned on child molestation charges

 

PROVIDENCE, R.I.— Attorney General Peter F. Neronha and Burrillville Police Chief Stephen J. Lynch announced today that a North Smithfield man has been arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on multiple felony counts of child molestation stemming from incidents alleged to have occurred between 2011 and 2012 while he worked as a substitute teacher at a Burrillville elementary school.

 

Michael Langelier (age 56) is charged with five counts of second-degree child molestation. The defendant was arraigned on March 10, 2022 and entered a plea of not guilty.

 

As alleged in court filings, the defendant sexually assaulted a female victim under the age of 14 multiple times between 2011 and 2012.

 

The defendant is scheduled for a hearing for determination of an attorney on March 24, 2022, in Providence County Superior Court.

 

Lieutenant Guy Riendeau and Detective Rebecca Carvalho of the Burrillville Police Department and Special Assistant Attorney General David Bonzagni of the Office of the Attorney General are leading the investigation and prosecution of the case.

Steve Witkoff heads there as a ceasefire deadline Trump imposed on Russia expires on Friday. Trump has grown increasingly frustrated with what he calls Vladimir Putin's inaction toward any sort of ceasefire deal.        Texas House Democrats promise to keep stonewalling Republican efforts to redraw the state's congressional map. Governor Greg Abbott issued civil arrest warrants for lawmakers who fled Texas to deny the chamber a quorum on Monday. Over 50 Democrats traveled to Illinois, New York, and Massachusetts to prevent the GOP from quickly advancing the maps aimed at adding up to five seats ahead of the 2026 midterms        Sean "Diddy" Combs is staying behind bars for now. The entertainment mogul was denied bail for a second time on Monday, with the order saying he "failed to satisfy his burden to demonstrate an entitlement to release." Combs was convicted of two counts of interstate prostitution, but was acquitted of the more serious federal charges against him last month. He is set to be sentenced on October 3rd.        California lawmakers are moving forward with a bill requiring police to disclose when they've used artificial intelligence to write reports. Passed by the Senate, the bill aims to enhance transparency in the creation of police reports. Supporters argue it's crucial for the justice system with incident reports often used as primary pieces of evidence.        The head of NASA wants a nuclear reactor on the moon. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy sent out a directive last Thursday saying it's imperative to get it done quickly. Duffy says a nuclear reactor on the moon would support a future lunar economy and strengthen America's national security in space.        Texas is the number one ranked team heading into the college football season. That's according to the first USA Today coaches poll released on Monday. Ohio State follows the Longhorns in second, Penn State is ranked third, while Georgia and Notre Dame round out the top five.
