        AUTUMNFEST PRIZE-A-DAY CALENDAR

 

Woonsocket – Autumnfest Prize-A-Day Calendar is back this year.  This is your chance to win more than $2000.00 in prizes.  There are a limited number of calendars to be purchased and each will be sold for $10.00 each.  During the month of November, prizes will be awarded Monday through Saturday to people who purchase a calendar.  You may win more than once. 

 

Some of the prizes include restaurant gift certificates, Stadium Theatre tickets and Ashley Furniture Leather Rocker Recliner donated by Family Discount Furniture.

 

Autumnfest Prize-A-Day Calendar is available to purchase at WOON Radio, 985 Park Avenue, Woonsocket and WNRI Radio, 786 Diamond Hill Road, Woonsocket.  They can also be purchased from the Autumnfest Prize-A-Day Calendar Coordinator Bill Scheck by calling 401-744-5989.  The calendars will be available for purchase on the grounds of Autumnfest during the festival.

The Senate is scheduled to vote today on two bills that would end the partial government shutdown. On Monday, both measures fell short of the 60 votes needed, but Senate Majority Leader John Thune said the chamber will keep voting on the bills. About 750-thousand federal workers have been furloughed because of the shutdown.        Former FBI Director James Comey is pleading not guilty to two federal charges. Comey is charged with obstruction of justice and making false statements by the Justice Department. The case is connected to Comey's testimony before Congress in 2020. He's accused of lying to the Senate Judiciary Committee about leaking information from the FBI's Trump-Russia investigation that began in 2016.        President Trump has called for Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson to be put in jail. The president's comment on the two Democratic leaders comes as they pushback on his administration's crime crackdown and immigration enforcement raids. Trump shared a post on Truth Social saying the duo "should be in jail" and he accused them of failing to protect ICE officers.        Flight delays continue to mount as the ongoing government shutdown is causing a shortage of air traffic controllers. Tuesday evening saw staffing issues leading to delays in cities like Nashville, Dallas, Chicago and Newark. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has acknowledged that air traffic controllers, who aren't being paid but are required to work during the shutdown, are calling in sick.        Six former U.S. surgeons general are speaking out against the policies of health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The former officials wrote an op-ed for the "Washington Post" this week claiming that Kennedy's policies are "endangering the health of the nation." The surgeons general who had served under both parties wrote that they have "always been united in an unwavering commitment to science and evidence-based public health," and said Kennedy's rhetoric about vaccines was dangerous.        All four series are in action in the MLB Postseason today. The Detroit Tigers will look to avoid elimination when they host the Seattle Mariners for game four. The Milwaukee Brewers will attempt to knock out the Cubs in Chicago in game three. Later, the New York Yankees will try to force a game five against the Toronto Blue Jays. Lastly, the Los Angeles Dodgers will look to eliminate in the Philadelphia Phillies in game three of that series.
