Annual Veterans Day Observance November 11, 2022

 

WOONSOCKET, R.I Mayor Daniel M. Gendron along with the United Veterans Council of Woonsocket announces the annual Veterans Day Observance that will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022, at the United Veterans Armed Forces Park on Davison Avenue at 11 o’clock a.m. Participants will include Veterans organizations, city and state officials, the Woonsocket Police and Woonsocket Fire Department Honor Guards & the Woonsocket High School Band.

Mayor Gendron said "Please join us on November 11th as we honor our veterans who have honorably served our country and their sacrifices have ultimately given us the freedoms which as Americans is the foundation of our democracy. We continue to honor them not only today, but every day"

There is limited seating available so please feel free to bring a chair. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Museum of Work & Culture 42 South Main Street. Announcement of the venue change will be made on local AM radio stations WNRI and WOON. WOON radio will also broadcast this event live.

Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac is dead at the age of 79. In a statement, her family said she passed away peacefully this morning after a short illness. She joined Fleetwood Mac as a permanent member in 1971 and served as a main songwriter and lead vocalist.       Smaller interest rate hikes may be on the way. That's according to Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell who spoke to the Brookings Institution. The Fed has been steadily raising interest rates this year in a bid to fight soaring inflation.        The House is passing a measure that gives rail workers seven days of paid sick leave. They did so in a separate vote as they took up the issue of averting a national rail strike. The overall bill passed with wide bipartisan support, but the vote on sick leave was much closer.       Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is ordering that flags be lowered to honor the victims of the deadly shooting at Oxford High School. Today is the one-year anniversary of the tragedy that claimed four lives and injured seven others. The shooter was 15 at the time and was charged as an adult.        Chinese police are moving quickly to clamp down on protests over the country's tough zero-COVID policy. Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas says the Biden Administration needs to support those calling for greater democracy and freedom. China has been hit by a wave of COVID cases.       A Gladys Knight scripted series is in the works at Cineflix. Knight is teaming up with Cineflix Productions to create the series and she'll serve as executive producer. The project reportedly will operate like Netflix's "The Crown" and focus on different periods of Knight's life.
